Pest Solutions is one of the fastest growing pest control companies in the UK and we aren’t slowing down any time soon.
We are delighted to announce that nine more exceptional new hires have joined our ranks over the past few weeks and are already making their impact felt.
Out in the field we have Max, Conor, Anna, Megan and Rebecca all joining the team as Graduate Service Technicians, whilst Michael brings 8 years of valuable industry experience to the role of Service Technician. Our new hires will bolster the ranks of our local branches across the UK, with the majority based in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Northern England.
Back at our Glasgow headquarters, our office team has also been strengthened with Yolanda joining as a Management Accountant, Emma as Office Administrator, and Nila as a content marketer.
A massive Pest Solutions welcome to Max, Conor, Anna, Megan and Rebecca, the latest group of talented young people to join our award-winning graduate scheme as graduate service technicians.
Coming from a variety of science, zoology and animal care backgrounds, each of our new team members brings something different to the table and have already impressed in their short time with the company.
Max – BSc Hons – With a BSc Hons in Zoology from Glasgow University, Max has previous experience as an Animal Care Technician working at the university. Max’s extensive knowledge of animal behaviour will be invaluable as he helps find solutions to our customers tricky pest problems.
Megan – BSc Hons – With a 1st Class BSc Hons in Applied Bioscience and Zoology, and a BSc Hons in Adult Nursing, Megan’s love of animals and people will serve her well as she combines the two as a graduate pest controller. Megan joins the team after time spent working as a SSCCA Animal Care Assistant.
Conor – After completing his degree in Applied Bioscience at the University of the West of Scotland, Conor worked as an Environmental Health Lab Technician at Glasgow City Council before making the switch the pest management in his new role.
Anna – BSc Hons – Graduating from Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) with a degree in Wildlife Conservation and Management, Anna’s background of animal management will serve her well as she embarks on her new career after spending time conducting bat surveys as a field ecologist.
Reb – BSc Hons – With a background working as a head chef, and a BA Hons in Psychology and Criminology from Leeds Beckett Uni, Reb’s background might not scream pest control, but her exceptional interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, and strong academic background made her a stand-out candidate right from the start.
Pest Solutions success is built on a blend of fresh faces and experienced heads and the guidance and knowledge of those who have been there and done it in the pest control industry is invaluable to our first timers. Michael is someone we have admired from afar for a while now, with over 8 years of experience working in the pest industry for a local competitor.
We were thrilled that Michael agreed to join the team at Pest Solutions as a service technician, and as expected, he has well and truly hit the ground running. Michael’s knowledge of pest species, and how to tackle them, is exceptional, and his commitment to continued learning and desire to improve even after nearly a decade in the field is exactly what we look for when recruiting for our new team members. With such a well established and successful training programme, we are more than happy to train experts from the ground up, but the opportunity to recruit someone with Michael’s background and skillset was simply too good to miss. Welcome to the team Michael!
Our graduate programme has delivered unprecedented success for Pest Solutions in recent times with several of our team winning national awards for their service just a few short years after entering the industry.
Several have also gone on to win or be nominated for major awards within the industry including Young Pest Controller of the Year and Pest Controller of the Year at the National Pest Awards. In fact, Graduate Pest Technician Chloe Smith, has just been announced as a finalist for this year’s Young Pest Technician of the Year award, following on from the success of Gemma Sutherland who won the award back in 2022 and Gabrielle Hogg in 2021.
We were also recently named as finalists for the 2024 Inspiring Future Talent Award at the prestigious Glasgow Business Awards, with the winner announced in October this year.
This is a great example of just what is possible when you give excellent young people who are incredibly talented, committed, and knowledgeable the platform to succeed, and we can’t wait to see what this latest crop can achieve.
The enthusiasm, knowledge, and willingness to learn displayed by our latest group of fresh faces gives us plenty of confidence that this trend will continue, and we have full confidence that they all have the capacity to become exceptional pest technicians in the months and years ahead. At our recent service meeting, the new guys had a chance to get to meet the Pest Solutions team in full and enjoyed a day of team building with their new colleagues (nothing builds relationships faster than a friendly archery competition!)
Many of our graduate service technicians have never even considered a career in pest control before applying for our training scheme and are put through extensive training to ensure they can meet the incredibly high standards our customers deserve.
So why not just hire from within the existing pest control industry?
Well, many of our competitors do just that, and it is one of the biggest reasons that the average age of pest controllers in the UK is now well over 45 years old.
Without fresh talent, the pest control industry is in serious trouble, and with pest issues only rising across the nation, something needs to change, and change fast.
By hiring from an incredibly talented pool of graduates with degrees in the fields of biology and animal behavioural science, we are not only protecting the pest control industry for the future but are also bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm into a sector that badly needs it.
Our training programmes are second to none and by investing in talented young people, we have seen exceptional outcomes over the last few years, leading to unprecedented growth for our company and, most importantly, outstanding results for our customers.
Despite only being in the industry for a few short years, many of our graduates are now seen as the hallmark of pest control professionalism in the UK and several have been asked to speak at national pest events in recent times.
Pest Solutions simply couldn’t function without the hard work that goes on behind the scenes in our accounts, office, and marketing departments.
Getting recruitment right here is essential to providing our experts in the field with the support, tools, and business, they need to do what they do best, and our latest three additions will be invaluable in this regard.
Content Marketer – Nila – MLitt, MBA, BA Hons – With an exceptional academic background and a MLitt in Marketing from University of St Andrews, Nila’s background in marketing and digital communications made her the perfect candidate to join our marketing arm as a content marketer. Qualifications aside, it was Nila’s attitude and desire to succeed that stood out a mile in the recruitment process and she is already hard at work elevating our online presence.
Office Administrator – Emma – You would be amazed at the logistics involved in running a UK-wide pest control company. Emma’s degree in International Business from Glasgow University gives her a strong foundational knowledge of what goes into running a busy business, something she has already been implementing in her new role as Office Administrator. Daughter of CEO Andy Hart, Emma has slotted in perfectly to our office team and provides valuable support to our team out in the field.
Management Accountant – Yolanda, ACA – An experienced accountant, Yolanda joins Pest Solutions from Boxmore Plastics in the key role of Management Accountant. With our company growing at a rapid rate, it is vital we keep our books in order and adding Yolanda’s expertise will provide our excellent accounts team with invaluable support and guidance.
Think you’ve got what it takes to work at one of the UK’s fastest growing pest control companies?
Over the past few years, we have seen that there is truly no ‘standard’ route to becoming a great pest controller, with young people from all walks of life thriving as part of our graduate programme.
If you have a background in science or animal behaviour and have never considered a career in the pest control industry, congratulations. You fit the profile of 90% of our graduate candidates.
The pest control industry is a fantastic place to apply your knowledge in a practical environment whilst protecting public health and local wildlife. We might be a bit bias, but this really is an excellent career path for anyone with a desire to help others and a willingness to learn.
If you have a passion for helping others, a love of animals, and a desire to learn new things, a career at Pest Solutions could be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
