Merry Christmas from Pest Solutions! 2024 Round Up
The finalists for the National Pest Awards 2024 have just been announced, and it’s big news for the Pest Solutions team!
We are delighted to say that we have finalist representation in 4 of the 9 award categories, with the winners to be named at the awards dinner at Hilton London Bankside Hotel on Wednesday 11th September 2024.
The National Pest Awards, hosted by Pest Magazine, is the UK’s biggest pest control awards event and is held annually to celebrate outstanding professionalism and excellence in the industry.
This time around, Pest Solutions have been named as finalists in the ‘Large Company of the Year’ and ‘Sustainability Initiative of the Year’ categories, but the good news doesn’t stop there!
Two of our brightest and best have also been shortlisted for individual honours with Iain Mackinnon as a finalist for ‘Pest Controller of the Year’ and Chloe Smith (Graduate Service Technician) as a finalist in the ‘Young Pest Controller of the Year’ category.
At Pest Solutions, our people are fantastic on their own (Iain and Chloe for example!) but it is together that we really thrive.
We have forged a real family culture over the past decade and have worked incredibly hard to give our team the platform they deserve to achieve their own personal growth.
Thanks to the hard work of our team and an ‘Attitude First’ approach to recruitment, we have been able to achieve some pretty incredible things over the past 5 years, growing over 4x during that time and heading the push for increased professionalism in the Pest Control industry.
We are absolutely delighted for Iain and Chloe, but we are also pleased to see Pest Solutions as a whole shortlisted for two of the most prestigious pest control awards in the UK.
These achievements are only possible due to the efforts of every single person in our team from the pest technicians in the field to the customer service team back at the office and they deserve to see their work recognised.
A massive well-done to every single finalist that was announced and good luck for the awards night on 11th September, we look forward to seeing you all there!
Pest Solutions are delighted to have been announced as finalists in the 2024 “Large Company of the Year” category at the National Pest Awards.
The Large Company of the Year Award (sponsored by Bell Laboratories) is one of the most prestigious awards on offer in the UK pest control industry and acknowledges businesses with 20 or more service technicians who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to professionalism, excellence, and outstanding customer service.
To be named as finalists, judges must also see a clear commitment to enhancing the personal professional skills of their service technicians and to encouraging them to stay fully up-to-date with the latest training and industry trends.
It is an honour to be named as finalists for this award for the third year in succession after previously been named as finalists in 2023 and 2022.
Having also been named as finalists in the Small Company of the Year category in 2021 and 2019, and with the awards being held every 2 years up until 2021, this latest nomination makes it the 5th time in a row that Pest Solutions has been named as finalists for Company of the Year.
Whilst we are yet to pick up the top prize, we see it as a massive achievement to have grown over 4x over the past 3 years without ever dropping the incredibly high standards that we set ourselves and to consistently be competing with other industry leaders.
Our fundamental business strategy of putting customer service excellence at the heart of everything we do has served us well so far and will remain as our number one priority in the years to come.
Congratulations to Contego Environmental and Vergo Pest Management for being named as fellow finalists and we wish them all the best for the awards ceremony on the 11th of September.
Large Company of the Year 2024 Finalists
Pest Solutions have been named as finalists in the Sustainability Initiative of the Year category at the National Pest Awards 2024.
Being finalists in this category is particularly pleasing after a year in which we have revolutionised our sustainability practices and have taken several groundbreaking steps towards the future of UK pest control.
The Sustainability Initiative of the Year award recognises those who have constantly delivered best practice in stewardship and sustainability and adopted innovative solutions to the benefit of their business, stakeholders and customers over the past 12 months. The overall environmental impact of the company’s operations is also considered.
As a company that is determined to drive the pest control industry forward in the years and decades to come, we strive to ensure all our activities are as sustainable as possible, going far above and beyond the minimum requirements for a business of our size.
As a company, we are committed to achieving Net-Zero by 2030 and have already made major strides in the right direction. Over the past year we have fully converted to paperless reporting, upgraded our fleet, and moved our entire management team into electric vehicles. We have also implemented a new waste management system at our Glasgow office and have launched our very own nationwide anti-litter campaign called ‘Enough is Enough”.
This year we became the very first pest control company to hire a dedicated Net Zero and Sustainability Coordinator in the form of the fantastic Maisie Bullock who has been vital in optimising our sustainability action plan.
Going through our operations with a fine-tooth comb, Maise has made some excellent actionable recommendations for change which we have already begun to implement, cementing our status as the hallmark for sustainable pest control in the UK.
We have also pledged to publish and share Maisie’s findings with all BPCA members in a bid to improve sustainability across the entire pest control industry, not just within Pest Solutions.
We always like to wish our fellow finalists well, but we are particularly keen to see other pest control businesses invest in sustainability so a big well done to Beaver Pest Control and Rokill for all their excellent work!
Sustainability Initiative of the Year 2024 Finalists
A massive congratulations to Chloe Smith, Graduate Service Technician at Pest Solutions and finalists for the Young Pest Controller of the Year award 2024.
This highly-regarded individual award (sponsored by ENVU) recognises exceptional young pest controllers under the age of 30 who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to enhancing personal skills and knowledge through continual training and skill acquisition.
Having passed her Certified Advanced Technician (CAT) exam with flying colours and with a Certified Field Biologist exam coming up in August, Chloe’s commitment to training has impressed from the moment she joined us as a graduate back in 2021.
However, it is her commitment to her customers and her professionalism that is truly inspirational, thriving in an extremely challenging area of Glasgow where bait shyness and behavioural resistance make many traditional pest control techniques ineffective.
Chloe has approached this challenge with enthusiasm and a calm confidence that has reassured customers and delivered some highly impressive results, embracing many innovative new baiting and remote monitoring techniques.
Combine this with a work ethic that is second to none and an approach to customer service that has led to over 134 5-star online reviews from customers in under 3 years and you see why it was no surprise to anyone here at Pest Solutions when Chloe was announced as a finalist for this award.
Chloe’s achievement continues a proud track record of success in this category for the Pest Solutions team with Gemma Sutherland being named as winner of National Pest Awards “Young Pest Controller of The Year” 2022.
A previous winner of the “Service Quality Excellence Award”, “Young Technician of the Year Award” and “State of Service Award” at the Pest Solutions company awards, Chloe is incredibly highly thought of among her peers and her customers and we are delighted to see her contributions recognised in such as prestigious manner.
Investing in youth has always been a fundamental factor in our success at Pest Solutions and we love seeing young people dedicating themselves to the fantastic career opportunities available in the pest control industry. With that in mind, a huge congratulations to fellow finalists Aaron Scott (John O’Conner) and Hayden Gough (Wakefield District Housing).
Young Pest Controller of the Year 2024 Finalists
We are delighted to announce that Iain Mackinnon (Service Technician) has been announced as a finalist for Pest Controller of the Year 2024 at the National Pest Awards.
Iain joined Pest Solutions back in 2022 and immediately hit the ground running, becoming an integral member of the team in a remarkably short period of time and remaining so ever since.
Iain has achieved some remarkable results during his time at Pest Solutions, tackling extensive rodent populations in Glasgow City Centre and protecting his customers amid a crisis of chemical and behavioural resistance and population growth.
Iain’s rise in the Pest Control industry is a testament to his commitment to training, exceptional approach to customer service, and an uncanny knack for finding innovative and effective solutions to the trickiest of pest problems.
There are many admirable and impressive things about Iain, but it is his genuine desire to help people that makes him such an outstanding pest controller.
Iain’s willingness to go the extra mile for his customers is truly inspiring and he regularly takes on out-of-hours work at short notice to help those in need.
Iain is incredibly well-thought of amongst his peers here at Pest Solutions and is always willing to go the extra mile to help his colleagues, providing valuable support and advice to anyone who asks and mentoring several of our newest Graduate Service Technicians.
He has also taken the time to support our work in the community, playing a key role in our partnership with the DYW (Developing the Young Workforce) championing the industry at ‘Step into STEM’ initiatives in schools and colleges across Central Scotland.
He’s even a bit of a TV star, having appeared on BBC news alongside Gemma Sutherland to talk about the impact of litter on rising rat numbers in the Glasgow area.
Winning the “Service Quality” award at the 2022 Pest Solutions company award, and being highly commended in the Technician of the Year award category, no-one deserves this recognition more than Iain, and we wholeheartedly believe he would be a worthy winner of the National Pest Awards top prize.
Iain’s achievement is all the more impressive when you consider the competition around him, with fellow finalists Jo Cooke-Symak (Mozzymak Pest Control) and Josh Bates (Cleankill Pest Control) a testament to the standards that are being set.
