This week, the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) announced their shortlists for their BPCA member awards 2024, with the winners to be announced at PestEx on Marth 13th.
We were delighted to see Pest Solutions named as finalists in five out of six of the award categories announced so far. The finalists for two other award awards (Lifetime Member Award and Special Contribution Award) will be announced at the event itself, as will the winner of the Charles Keeble Award.
As a company, Pest Solutions have been announced as finalists in the Commitment to Training Award and the Business Growth Award categories, an achievement that is only possible thanks to the hard work of our fabulous team.
Talking of our team, it was even better to find out that three of our staff have been shortlisted for the following individual awards.
Iain Rodgers (Service Team Leader) –BPCA Leadership Award.
Siobhan Quinn (Domestic Account Manager) – BPCA Spotlight Award.
Gemma Sutherland (Service Manager/Graduate Advanced Technician) –BPCA Commitment to CPD Award.
A huge congratulations to the wonderful Iain Rodgers, Siobhan Quinn, and Gemma Sutherland for being shortlisted in individual award categories, a well-deserved recognition for the superb work they have done over the past 12 months and beyond to keep Scotland pest free.
We work with Iain, Siobhan, and Gemma every single day, and are well aware that they deserve every piece of credit that they get, but with thousands of pest controllers and support staff working across the UK, the competition for these awards is fierce and being shortlisted as an individual is truly a feat to be proud of.
With the award winners announced at PestEx on March 13th, we have our fingers crossed that Siobhan, Gemma, and Iain will come out on top in their respective categories, but whatever happens next, they have all achieved something very special and we couldn’t be more pleased for them.
Sure, we are rooting for our people, but being shortlisted for these awards is a huge achievement, and the whole team here at Pest Solutions would like to wish all the finalists the very best of luck on the big day.
UPDATE: BPCA Member Awards Winners 2024 Announced Here.
With such stiff competition, being shortlisted for any BPCA award is an honour. However, given the investment we have made in our training programmes, and in particular our graduate training scheme, over the past few years, being recognised in this category means just that little bit more.
At Pest Solutions, there is no secret to our success. We find great people, and give them the platform to fulfil their potential, with access to the very best training opportunities in the pest industry. It is no fluke that so many of the graduates we have taken on over the past few years have progressed into some of the best pest professionals in the nation.
It is all very well putting the framework in place for training, but our success has been built on the commitment of our staff to engaging fully with every opportunity they are given and putting the time and effort into their own personal development.
All of our staff smashed their targets of reaching 40 CPD points in 2023 with many going far beyond that target. Gemma Sutherland’s shortlisting for the commitment to CPD award is testament to this, with Gemma achieving an impressive 156.5 points. Many other members of our team also exceeded 100 BPCA Registered CPD points as well with several over 200 points and a few over 300 points.
We consider it good business strategy to be committed to the training and development of all of our people
Good luck to all the finalists for the Commitment to Training Award 2024:
· Ecolab
· John O’Connor
· Pest Solutions
· Rokill
· Safeguard Pest Control
We are one of the fastest growing independent pest control companies in the UK, and 2023 was one of our best years yet.
In 2019, we had a team of just 7, a number that has risen to nearly 60 in the five years since and will need to expand again in the near future to cope with demand. We have no plans to slow down any time soon and are projecting a growth rate of 14.5% per quarter in the next three years, a rate that would see us achieve a remarkable 4x growth.
We have been shortlisted for this award for the last three years running so are clearly doing something right, and are proud to have been nominated as a finalist once again in 2024.
A combination of great customer service, training, and investment in the very best people and products in the pest control industry have proven to be a recipe for success for our company and are set for another record breaking year in 2024.
A big part of our growth is based on our ability to attract the best possible candidates for each and every role and incentives such as our “Pest Professional Bonus Scheme” have made Pest Solutions a highly attractive place to work.
Good luck to all the finalists for the Business Growth Award 2024:
· Contego Environmental Service
· Pest Solutions
· Vergo
Iain has been with Pest Solutions for well over 2 years now and has contributed massively to our success in that time. As a service team leader, Iain manages a team of over 30 technicians and has been a constant source of guidance and support in their training and development.
Our team culture is one that is frequently praised by new recruits joining from other pest control companies and Iain has played a huge role in fostering that culture creating an environment where everyone is motivated, valued, and feels heard.
Iain believes in a lead from the front leadership mentality and the example that he sets is truly inspirational. In 2023, Iain received the Colleague of the Year award at the Pest Solutions company awards, demonstrating the esteem in which he is held by his fellow team members. He was nominated for the “Outstanding CPD” award at the 2023 BPCA Member awards, showing his commitment to setting a great example to his team in terms of commitment to training and constant desire for personal development.
Iain exemplifies everything that is expected from a BPCA leadership award finalist and whilst it was great to see him make the list, it was no shock to any of us here.
Good luck to all the finalists for the BPCA Leadership Award 2024:
· Oliver Fitzgerald, Complete Pest Control Services
· John Knight, Vergo
· Iain Rodgers, Pest Solutions.
BPCA Registered is the CPD scheme designed to recognise pest professionals for completing training or development programmes and ensure a certain standard of professionalism is maintained among all BPCA members.
Every time a pest professional completes CPD eligible training or attends a CPD eligible event, they receive CPD points, with a minimum of 20 points per team member required to retain membership.
At Pest Solutions we require all our staff to obtain at least 40 CPD points each year, double the minimum requirement, as part of our commitment to provide our customers with industry leading service. Some of our staff go far above this in their pursuit of excellence, and Gemma is always right up there with the best of them.
In 2023, she obtained an impressive 156.5 points (156 hours of training) , but it was the quality of the training she completed, as well as the significant hours she put in, that sealed her place on the shortlist for the 2024 award.
Gemma’s success continues our proud track record in this award category, following in the footsteps of Kevin Pugh and Iain Rodgers who have been shortlisted previously and making it 4 years on the bounce that we have had a finalist in this category.
All of the finalist should be proud of the effort they have put in to their career as pest professionals. Anyone keen to do well in the industry and establish themselves should look to the finalists as a great example to follow.
Good luck to all the finalists for the BPCA Leadership Award 2024:
· Marcus Bell, Pestforce
· Brian Downard, Multipest
· Mike Little, Precision Pest Control
· Gemma Sutherland, Pest Solutions
· Steven Wingrove, Absolute Pest Control.
Siobhan is the glue that holds our customer service together, managing incoming calls to the company and ensuring all our clients receive the help and support they deserve every single time.
When someone calls up Pest Solutions, they are often in a pretty difficult situation with a stressful and upsetting pest problem affecting their daily lives. Siobhan’s knowledge, infectious enthusiasm and empathetic approach is exactly what they need and her efficiency ensures that their job is soon booked in and a technician is on the way to put things right.
Initial contact is only the start of what Siobhan brings to the table, as she replies to reviews, responds to surveys, and generally ensure that every single communication a customer has with Pest Solutions is of the same exemplary standard.
Since Siobhan joined Pest Solutions, our conversion rate for domestic jobs has risen from 43% to an impressive 76%, something that has contributed massively to our growth over the last 12 months.
Siobhan is constantly smashing her sales targets and her infectious personality has proven a hit with colleagues and customers alike. So much so that her presence has actually been requested specifically by customers on several occasions due to the rapport that she has built up over the phone.
Siobhan’s forays into the field every now and again alongside a qualified technician is testament to her willingness to go the extra mile and her presence within the company was the catalyst for our consecutive nominations in the ‘Customer Service Excellence’ category at the Lanarkshire Excellence Business Awards.
We should all remember the people in our teams that work tirelessly behind the scenes for the benefit our customers and field based teams. It is great to recognise the hard work of the finalists in this award category. Well done to all of you. Keep up the great work.
