Light Up a Life Appeal 2024

Festive Fundraising for Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice: Light Up a Life Appeal 2024

For a third year running, it was our pleasure to support the incredible work of local charity The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice’s Light Up a Life Appeal 2024 during the Christmas lights switch on at Glasgow Central Station.

Prince-Princess-of-Wales-Hospice

Following record-breaking success in 2023, the generosity of the wonderful Glasgow public was on full show once again this time around, with a fantastic ÂŁ714.94 raised throughout the day.

The Pest Solutions team were delighted to be involved and were on hand throughout the day to provide a little bit of gentle encouragement and a bucket-load of festive cheer!

As a local Glasgow based company, we try to get involved in as many local community events as possible and partake in a number of regular fundraising events throughout the year There is always something a bit extra special about the Light up a Life Campaign, however, and we are always blown away with the generosity of the people of Glasgow, especially in the current cost of living crisis.

A massive thankyou to everyone who donated on the day, it was great to see you all and to be reminded just how incredibly a community that Glasgow truly is.

If you couldn’t make it this time around, don’t worry! The PPOW hospice relies on year-round support to maintain the exceptional level of palliative care they do, and any donations or volunteering support would be greatly appreciated.

Meet the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice

If you are aware of the work done by the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, you will understand immediately why we are so keen to get involved in this annual fundraising event.

If you are not so familiar, the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is a local charity who have been providing world leading person-centred care to individuals with life limiting conditions, and their families, since 1980.

Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice - Pest Solutions

Embracing the Scandinavian Sengetun approach to palliative care (the first in Scotland to follow this model) the Prince & Princess of Wales helps those in the most difficult of situations to live every single day to the fullest, putting mental & physical well-being, and a sense of calm, at the heart of everything they do.

Talking of heart, the staff at Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice are truly incredible, providing the very highest standard compassionate care to those with conditions such as cancer, lung disease, neurological conditions and heart failure.

Since 2018, the hospice has been based at a brand-new state-of-the-art facility in Bellahouston Park and is regularly recognised as one of the world’s best care facilities.

Physical treatment is only the start of the work done by the carers at PPOW hospice with spiritual and mental health support for both patients and their families provided by some of Scotland’s leading healthcare professionals.

As you can imagine, maintaining such an exceptional standard of care doesn’t come cheap and whilst a part of their funding is provided by the NHS, an eye-watering £3m worth of donations is required each year to keep the hospice operational.

Events such as the Light Up a Life campaign are crucial, but don’t worry if you weren’t able to make it along this time around. The hospice isn’t just for Christmas after all and year round support is essential if the hospice is to continue/

If you are looking for a truly special local cause to support this festive season, we couldn’t think of a better way to make a difference than making a donation to PPOW.

Pest Solutions and the Prince & Princes of Wales Hospice

The management team at Pest Solutions are incredibly proud to have been able to play a small part in supporting the work of the PPOW hospice by supporting the Light up a Life collection at Glasgow Central Station over the past 3 years.

Light up a life 2024

We have close year-round ties with the hospice and several members of our team have family members who volunteer with the charity.

We have also taken part in a number of other fundraising and volunteering initiatives over the years including the Warehouse Challenge back in 2023, helping to sort items donated to the charity so they could be distributed to shops across the Glasgow area.

Every single event is organised and run incredibly well, and we would encourage absolutely anyone to get involved if they possibly can. Every little really does help.

We pledge to continue supporting the PPOW hospice going forward into 2025 and look forward to seeing you all again next year for the Christmas light switch on. (We’ll be the ones with the buckets!)

How to get involved

There are many ways to support the work of the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.

From one-off donations, to regular monthly contributions, and gifts left in your will, however you choose to donate to the PPOW hospice, you can rest assured that your heard earned money will be going to the very best of causes.

40 years PPOW

For an idea of just how much of an impact every single donation can have, here is a list of some of the impact you could have.

  • ÂŁ10 fund a patient’s meals for 1 day, so ÂŁ710 will pay for a patients meal for 71 days, made by the catering team within the hospice.
  • ÂŁ40 can pay for one patient art session, so ÂŁ720 could fund 18 art sessions, enhancing a sense of well-being.
  • ÂŁ60 can pay for a rehabilitation session, helping patients maintain independence, quality of life and well-being, ÂŁ720 could fund 12 rehabilitation sessions.
  • ÂŁ60 can pay for a bereavement counselling session, supporting a family who has recently lost a loved one, ÂŁ720 would fund 12 bereavement counselling sessions.
  • ÂŁ270 funds specialist nurses to provide care and support for patients and their families within the community for a day, so this could fund a community nurse for more than 2 days.
  • ÂŁ840 is the cost to fund a bed for a day in the Hospice Inpatient Unit, a collection of ÂŁ714.94 goes a long way to support with this.

What better way to share the love this Christmas than helping a wonderful local charity to help those with life limiting illnesses to make the most of every single second with their families.
